SENIOR NEWS PRODUCER

KUSI NEWS is looking for a full-time senior news producer.

Job requirements: Job requirements: Looking for 3-5 years experience as a senior producer producing a newscast at a commercial TV Station in a medium to large market. Must be familiar with ENG and SNG operations. Candidate must have a proven track record of successful leadership. The Sr. Producer will craft and execute a broadcast that reflects the news philosophy and strategy of management. The Sr. Producer must be a skilled communicator who can direct a newscast team from story selection through the end of a broadcast. The Sr. Producer will monitor assigned stories, work with reporters on story angle/development, assist producers with the stacking, writing and overall newscast production, and supervise the execution of the live newscast from the control room. The Sr. Producer will proofread and copyedit news content to ensure factual, balanced, complete, clear and concise content.

Job Skills:: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task and not get flustered. Flexible leader who is able to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment. Must be able to make decisions and perform duties under extreme pressure.

NEWS PRODUCER

KUSI NEWS is looking for a full-time news producer.

Job requirements: Job requirements: Must have a minimum of 3-5 years TV News Producing Experience in mid to major market size. Candidate will assist in writing stories, monitor incoming affiliate feeds on a daily basis, assist in the selection of video for open of the broadcast, will assist Executive Producer in reading report scripts to make sure they are factual, balanced and clear. Will monitor the progress of assigned stories and will coordinate with the studio director to control the news broadcast from start to finish.

Job Skills:: Candidate must have excellent writing, spelling, grammar and proofreading skills. Must exercise excellent organizational and planning skills, and have good judgment. Must have the ability to perform duties and make decisions under extreme pressure and under a deadline while multi-tasking. Requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

NEWS WRITER

KUSI NEWS is looking for a full-time news writer.

Job requirements: Must be a top notch, experienced news writer. Minimum two to three years experience in a newsroom writing stories in Broadcast Style. Will write stories assigned by the news producers, log video tapes, write scripts for anchors, write teases, promos, read wires for late breaking stories, assist reporters, and will check out news stories by telephone. Must have flexible schedule.

Job Skills:: Ability to write clear, concise English in broadcast style, ability to write quickly and under pressure, computer literate including Internet research, good organizational skills, excellent communicator both orally and written, excellent spelling and grammar and fast and accurate typing speed.

NEWS PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

KUSI NEWS is looking for a part-time news production assistant.

Job requirements: College Degree in Communications, Journalism or Mass Media, preferred or in progress. Will be assisting producers in getting the daily broadcast on and off the air with minimum amount of problems. Will tear and distribute scripts to news and production crew, log new tapes for news stories, locate file video requested by producers or reporters, help maintain video library, write teases and stories, other duties as assigned by producers.

Job Skills: Ability to write clear, concise English, Computer literate, Must be familiar with Broadcast style writing, Familiarity with teleprompter, ability to follow directions, detail oriented, ability to work in a fast paced environment, ability to take direction, able to multi-task.

ASSIGNMENT EDITOR

KUSI NEWS is looking for a full-time assignment editor.

Job requirements: Will Assign reporters and photographers to stories, develops a network of news sources in all fields, sets up stories in advance, must be well informed on current events, reads daily newspapers, and watches other news programs regularly, routinely checks beat checks for possible stories, keeps Executive Producer and producers informed on stories and the progression of stories, takes viewers calls with complaints and story ideas and assists in setting feeds of news stories. Looking for a minimum of 1-2 years as an assignment editor in a newsroom.

Job Skills: Excellent communication and organizational skills, MUST be able to work in a fast paced environment, make decisions under pressure, able to work in a highly stressful environment, maintain professional composure at all times and able to multi-task.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

KUSI NEWS is looking for a part-time production assistant.

Job requirements: Minimum two year college education or equivalent additional experience. Candidates should have a minimum two years experience operating a studio camera, audio equipment and videotape machines. Must be familiar with studio and remote lighting techniques, floor directing, videotape machine operation, set up and editing. Should have experience switching and digital effects operation, lighting techniques, and studio remote. Master Control and Chyron Infinit experience preferred. Must be detail oriented and able to stand for extended periods.

Job Skills: Must be able to work independently or as part of a team in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment. Must be familiar with television production equipment and have basic computer skills. Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time, must be detail oriented, and must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends and must be able to work overtime when required.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

KUSI NEWS is looking for a part-time graphic designer.

Job requirements: Will be responsible for electronic graphic preparation primarily for News, but also including Sales, Promotions, Production and Community Affairs. Will be required to learn many different types of equipment including but not limited to Chyron Infinit, Aprisa StillStore, Routing systems, Cameras and other video equipment. Most work will involve Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere on Windows computers. 3d skills are also a plus. Must be flexible to work weekends and evenings.

Job Skills: Two years college or equivalent, skills must be verifiable by portfolio, references or demo tape. Candidate must be detail oriented, creative, flexible, have excellent communication skills, and possess an ability to prioritize and adapt to a changing workload quickly. Hours will vary and include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

NATIONAL SALES MANAGER

KUSI NEWS is looking for a full-time national sales manager.

Job requirements: San Diego station looking for a strong leader to drive National Sales revenue growth in today’s challenging marketplace. We require a rare combination of skill sets; someone equally comfortable penetrating major agencies, while relating to business owners and client contacts. Knowledge of ratings and media math is a necessity, but you must know how to close a sale without it. Qualified candidate must have a minimum three years of TV sales or Rep firm experience and a proven sales track record in growing revenue. This driven-to-succeed individual will be responsible for the negotiations off all national advertising revenue placed with the station, and ensure the proper flow of all national transactions, will be the liaison between station and the National Rep firm, must be able to travel frequently nationally to represent the station. Will be involved with inventory control and rate posture of the station and pricing of special programs. Must be knowledgeable of all advertising regulations, station policies regarding political advertising, acutely knowledgeable of FCC regulations, children’s advertising and 900 telephone numbers.

Job Skills: Excellent communication skills both oral and written, excellent at negotiating and adding value. Able to work long hours when needed, organized and detail oriented, able to multi-task, excellent follow through and follow up and excellent at developing and maintaining relationships. Must be a strategic thinker, have attention to detail and a positive attitude.

ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

KUSI NEWS is looking for a full-time account executive.

Job requirements: Sell local advertising and promotional opportunities on KUSI-TV. Grow a Sr. level account list with an emphasis on generating new business revenue. Responsible for inputting all traffic orders as well as keeping up with audience. Assist in coordinating the production of commercials with outside vendors Creates effective advanced sales presentations and proposals based on advanced advertising capabilities. Work with Local Sales Manager on other initiatives by managing and disseminating all information (e.g. trade magazine articles, industry information, and market data). Work with Local Sales Manager to develop and implement advanced advertising Create qualitative sheets and proposals for various industry categories, positioning KUSI in the most positive light. Obtain and utilize Nielsen (quantitative) and Scarborough (qualitative) data, retail product information, and other various demographic and psychographic research. Prepare presentations for clients and for strategic use by management. Maintain KUSI sales standards in all presentations. Provide relative training to sales team as appropriate.

Job Skills: 5 years of successful TV sales experience. Additional media sales research experience in a media sales atmosphere or with an advertising agency preferred. Possesses and can demonstrate strong analytical skills and aptitude. Exceptional use of computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Media sales research software and data experience (Tapscan, Nielsen, Scarborough, CMR, Wide Orbit) a must. Self-starter with the ability to work under pressure, complete multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. Excellent independent judgment and initiative skills required. Exceptional interpersonal/people skills including verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, detail and follow up skills.
