HOW TO ENTER:

All 1st through 6th grade teachers in San Diego County are invited to have their classes write a Public Service Announcement, or “PSA”, on any topic they like.  The students in each class should make a joint effort to decide what ‘tip’ they want to share with other kids.  After the PSA is written, teachers can e-mail the “Tip for Kids” that their class has come up with to: psa@kusi.com.  Teachers can email entries to KUSI NEWS anytime during the school year.  KUSI will record and air the selected PSA’s continuously.

DETAILS:

All emailed entries must include the teacher’s name, the school’s name and address, and contact information.  The PSA should be approximately 30 seconds, when read at a comfortable pace… Use a timer to practice!  Here is a sample script:

**30 SECOND PSA "GIVING BACK" ** 

TEACHER:  "HI, I'M JANE SMITH FROM SPRINGFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN LA MESA. HERE’S A TIP MY SECOND GRADE CLASS WOULD LIKE TO SHARE..."

STUDENT #1:  "GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF BECOMING A GOOD CITIZEN."

STUDENT #2:  "THERE ARE MANY WAYS YOU CAN HELP PEOPLE AROUND YOU."

STUDENT #3:  "AND WHEN YOU DO HELP OTHERS, YOU CAN MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE IN THEIR LIVES."

STUDENT #4:  "FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN DO YOUR PART TO INSPIRE POSITIVE CHANGE IN OUR WORLD TODAY!"

STUDENT #5:  "YOU'LL FEEL GREAT ABOUT YOURSELF, AND YOU'LL BE HELPING SOMEONE AT THE SAME TIME."

Feel free to use any visual aids you like to make the PSA more effective!

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:

We’ll contact you (the teacher), and schedule an upcoming Friday to record your PSA.  As a fun bonus, we’ll send our morning Meteorologist, Renee Kohn, along with a camera person to your classroom from 7-9 am…during our “Good Morning San Diego” live morning show!  Your class will then have the chance to talk more about their TIP!  This part will depend on whether a live feed can be transmitted from your school’s location.  If a live transmission works, the PSA will be recorded during the 7-9 am time frame.  If it won’t work, we’ll schedule a camera person to video tape your PSA at another time.  Keep watching KUSI to see your “Tip For Kids”!
