San Diegans Wait In Line For Social Security
Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - A Spring Valley woman called KUSI's Michael Turko when she found out federal bureaucrats were holding up her Social Security claim. Turko says the Social Security Disability Program is supposed to be a safety net for people with serious injuries, but now the wait for help can last years.
They say justice delayed is justice denied, and that's what we're seeing here. Hundreds of people waiting for a hearing on their Social Security benefits are being told they'll have to wait, and the wait could be two years or more. It turns out the federal bureaucracy has dumped thousands of out of state cases right in the laps of local judges. Now everyone's struggling to get through a legal log jam! |
