D.A.'s Office Credits Turko For Contractor Crackdown
Monday, August 24, 2009 - The district attorney's office is giving KUSI's Michael Turko credit for helping shut down a state wide contracting ring that preyed on the elderly. The state contractors' board says Turko's reporting helped it collect the largest enforcement judgment in its 80 year history.
My investigation exposed a flaky outfit that took out lots of ads for emergency electrical work in San Diego. But all their calls were routed to a boiler room in Sacrademento, and dispatched from L.A! And the unlicensed contractors who showed up charged whatever they could get for services no one ever heard of. But after I opened a file on the case, they met their match! |
