Have You Broken Your New Year's Resolution Yet?
NEW YORK -- Every New Year Americans love to make resolutions to get healthier, improve their relationships, eat less or stop smoking. But according to a new survey released this week, by this time in January more than a third of those who made resolutions may have already broken them.

In a survey of more than 2,500 U.S. adults, more than one third (37 percent) of those who said they have made a New Year's resolution confessed they did not keep those resolutions more than a month -- and more than one in ten (12 percent) broke their resolutions within a week!

The online survey found that while nearly two in three U.S. adults (63 percent) have made a New Year's resolution at some point in their lives, nearly nine in ten of those (87 percent) admitted they didn't keep the resolution throughout the year.

Among those who have ever made a New Year's resolution, the majority (55 percent) have made health-focused resolutions, but more than three quarters (77 percent) said the hardest part in keeping their New Year's resolutions was staying motivated.

The vast majority (87 percent) of those who have made a New Year's resolution felt their resolutions were realistic, yet setting achievable goals does not seem to help people stick with the resolutions. More than half (53 percent) of those who have made a New Year's resolution admitted they are only somewhat motivated to keep their resolutions -- and only about one in ten (12 percent) say they are very motivated!
