2008 Silver Pigskin Player of the Year
Cathedral Catholic's Tyler Gaffney rode a record-breaking season to a daylight victory in the race for the 2008 Silver Pigskin Player of the Year award. Leading his team to a perfect 13-0 record, Gaffney scored an astounding 51 touchdowns for 306 points, both totals smashing single-season records in the San Diego Section. Gaffney's name was marked on 61 of 137 ballots, followed by Madison's Robbie Rouse, who received 38. Oceanside's Jordan Wynn garnered 16 votes, followed by Scripps Ranch's Tate Forcier with 12 and Valley Center's James Johnson with 10. Over 10,000 internet votes were received which, when weighted as 10% of a combined total of paper and internet votes, represented 14 paper ballots. Those ballots were added to the 123 paper ballots received from the Silver Pigskin electorate, bringing the total counted ballots to 137. Thanks to everyone who helped make 2008 the best season of PPR ever!
