Steele Canyon 31, Vista 20
The Steele Canyon Cougars are advancing to the Quarterfinals after beating Vista 31-20. The Cougars were just too much for the Panthers to handle. Sophomore quarterback Thomas Fishburne had a tremendous game as he put up 197 yards of passing along with 4 touchdown passes. Running back Pierre Alexander also had a great game as he was over 100 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns. The game was tied twice in the first half with both teams on a roll. It was second half that Steele Canyon’s defense did not let Vista’s offense get going. Cesar Mariscal had a great game for the Panthers but it was just not enough to come out with the victory. The Panthers season comes to an end as they end with a (4-7) record and will come back next season looking to bounce back from this loss. The Steele Canyon Cougars will head to Grossmont next week to take on the Foothillers. Steele Canyon faced Grossmont in Week 7 and came out with the victory 39-36. Will Grossmont get their revenge or will the Cougars take the number two seed Grossmont out of the division one playoffs? KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report Week 13 will have all your answers.
Week 12 is the first week of playoffs for San Diego high school football as the Steele Canyon Cougars (6-4) host the Vista Panthers (4-6). The last time these two met was last season in the regular season as the Cougars got the victory 25-7. Last season, the Panthers made it to the quarterfinals but lost to St. Augustine. The Cougars also made it to playoffs last season but were eliminated by El Camino by two points.
The Cougars are led by sophomore quarterback Thomas Fishburne. Thomas has proven that you can be an underclassman and still make an impact on a varsity team as he has had a solid season for the Cougars. The Cougars share the carries between the seniors Pierre Alexander and Malcolm Anders. Alexander and Anders both have break away ability and are ready to make a huge play at any time in the game. The Panthers defense is led by Panthers star Brandon Price and Falamoe Steffany as they will attempt to stop this Cougar offense. The Panthers are coming off a win over Rancho Buena Vista and have some momentum coming into this playoff game.
The winner of this game will go on to play Grossmont. The Cougars beat Grossmont this season and the Panthers have not faced them. Both teams putting all their effort to stay alive in playoffs but only one can advance. Who will it be?
