Skateboarding can be a lot of fun. But along with the fun comes the chance of injury. KUSI's Tom Jordan wants you to know that wearing the proper safety gear is the best way to protect yourself in case of an accident.

- Sticking to designated skate parks is great way to skateboard safely. San Diego has many skate parks that are free and often for all ages.

- If you do decide to skate outside of the parks, watch out for traffic - cars may not see you
coming, so be extra careful and look both ways before you cross the street or an intersection
