Casino Night is a fundraiser supporting the high-impact youth development programs of Juma Ventures. Working together, we hope to raise $50,000 to ensure that underserved youth in the San Diego area complete a four-year college education.
Event sponsors and their guests will enjoy a memorable evening at the San Diego Hall of Champions—including taking a turn at their favorite casino tables, privately touring the museum, enjoying fun music and tasty food and drinks. Juma will also have their Annual Youth Awards during the ceremony, highlighting the Employee of the Year, Academic All-Star, and Triple Crown Award Winner!
Since 1993, Juma has helped more than 3,000 low-income students earn $3 million in wages and save more than $2 million toward a college education.
WHAT IS JUMA?
Juma Ventures is a powerful force for change for under-resourced youth who are motivated to earn a college degree. Juma students participate in an innovative, award-winning program that combines employment in social enterprises at major sports venues, academic support, financial education, and matched savings to ensure that low-income young people complete a four-year college education.
These jobs and support services, in conjunction with the supportive peer and adult relationships that students form in Juma's program, provide the foundation for young people to transcend challenging circumstances and make successful transitions into higher education and adulthood. In 2012, Juma Ventures will serve more than 750 students between the ages of 16 and 19 years old. Juma students are recruited through schools and community programs in some of San Francisco, Oakland, New York and San Diego's most impoverished neighborhoods.
Juma is an answer to a very real crisis: Over one-third of America's college students and half of our minority students fail to earn a college degree—even after six years.
