SAN DIEGO (KUSI) - This week, NASA scientists, including a NASA astronaut, were in Southern California touring facilities that make components for America's "Manned Deep Space" mission: Orion.

It is the largest autoclave, pressure chamber, on the West Coast and inside it is the abort cone for NASA's Orion spacecraft.

The cone or fillet, is one of two key Orion components made at San Diego composites, a small company in the Miramar Area.

The other component is a panel or covering on the astronaut's capsule. 

Longtime NASA astronaut Rick Mastracchio and was one of the group members briefed on the various components.
