California senate passes 11 gun control measures

Posted: Updated:

SACRAMENTO (KUSI) — The State Assembly will consider a new bill that could tighten California’s gun laws.

The California Senate approved eleven new gun control measures Thursday that attempts to outlaw the sale of assault weapons with easily detachable magazines.

The weapons with a device known as “bullet buttons” allow for magazine rounds to easily detach. Gun makers created “bullet buttons” to get around California’s assault-weapon ban, the Associated Press said.

The bill would also require people to give up magazines that hold more than ten rounds and proposes background checks for ammunition purchases.

The vote Thursday came as Democrats attempt to stop a ballot measure advocated by Kt. Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The bill has been sent to the State Assembly for consideration.
