The San Diego Chargers are in week four of their off season training activities, and it was a spirited practice. The defense picked off several passes in the practice, and they seem to have a different intensity. "We are a young defense," said cornerback Jason Verrett. "There is no reason why we can't be one of the top 10 defenses in the NFL if we do what we are supposed to do."
Verrett was recently ranked as the 3rd-best cornerback in the NFL behind the Cardinals' Patrick Patrick Peterson and the Seahawks' Richard Sherman. The key for Verrett to live up to the hype is to stay healthy for a full season. "That is why I play this game; I play this game to be the best," he added. "I have high expectations of myself this year. I am looking to continue that throughout my career."
Chargers new center Matt Slauson spoke to the media for the first time since being in San Diego, and he explained his two different personalities - the one on the field and the one off the field. "Off the field I don't want to be a jerk," said Slauson. "I have a wife and I have kids. I want to set a good example for them. But on the field I have a job to do and I do that job for my kids."
"And I feel like the guy across from me is trying to take that away from me, and that's one thing you don't want to do - mess with my kids."
