28th annual Chargers 'Back to School' shoe distribution

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — School is going to be pretty cool for the rest of the year for hundreds of San Diego-area children in need. They got new "back to school" shoes, courtesy of a certain pro football team and Payless ShoeSource.

Five Payless ShoeSource stores were taken over Tuesday morning by large people wearing navy blue and gold jerseys and smaller people who couldn't wait to have their feet measured and then to hit the aisles for new footwear.

Each child was accompanied by a Chargers player or a team employee.

Forget "White Hot Sunday." This was "Shoe Leather Tuesday," a Chargers and Payless ShoeSource event almost three decades old.

Every aisle was packed. Initially the kids are a little shy, but by the time they leave, as Wide Receiver Dontrelle Inman said, it's all about the smiles.
