The Week Nine South Bay Game of the Week features the Mar Vista Mariners (5-2) traveling to Hilltop to take on the Lancers (4-3). The Mariners are lead offensively by running back Khalil Spruill who has run for 13 touchdowns this year. Last week he surpassed the 1000-yard rushing mark for the season...something he has done now three years in a row. Having said that wouldn't you know Spruill gets the Mariner's on the scoreboard first with a dazzling high-yardage run followed by a quick scamper into the end zone. Hilltop answers quickly when Alex Tejeda throws a touchdown pass to Max Ugarte to tie the game. Mar Vista then regains the lead with a touchdown pass from Mike Wilson to Noah Berry. Tense moments when a Mar Vista Coach collapses on the sidelines and has to be taken away by ambulance. Word is he's going to be Ok. When the game resumes, Hilltop's Dominic Esparza scores on a short run to tie the game at 14. Then in the second quarter Angel Pineda puts the Lancers ahead with a short run. Minutes later Mar Vista's Noah Berry pulls of a super long run to make it 21-20 Hilltop. In the third quarter the lead changes hands several times...Hilltop goes ahead with an Alex Tejeda to Gus Ferreira pass. The Mariners then regain the lead in the fourth quarter with a clutch 32-yard field goal by Cesar Macias who admitted after the game "I was scared." Then with 36 seconds to go, Hilltop with a chance to win the game with a field goal but the kick is wide...Mariner's win 30-29. As always thanks for watching!

Quarterback Mike Wilson has rushed for six touchdowns in addition to throwing for four touchdowns. Defensively the Mariners have some very adept tacklers. Alejandro Hinojosa has wracked up 50 solo tackles. His teammate Matt Estrada is not far behind with 49 solo tackles. Niko Figueroa leads the Lancers in Quarterback sacks with nine. At 5'8", 245 pounds, he's not easy to stop! The Mar Vista coaching staff is noteworthy. Head Coach Tyler Arciaga was a big star at Bonita Vista. Helping him out is former Bonita Vista Head Coach Carl Parrick and former Bonita Vista Assistant Coach Greg Raby. The Lancers are lead offensively by Quarterback Alex Tejada who has thrown 14 touchdown passes. One of his favorite targets is Gus Ferreira who has pulled in 7 Tejada passes for touchdowns. In the rushing department, Dominic Esparza leads the Lancers with five touchdown runs.
