Week 9 of The Prep Pigskin Report took us to celebrate Homecoming 2016 with The Montgomery Aztecs as they hosted The San Ysidro Cougars. The Homecoming Court was introduced and there was an amazing firework show at halftime. We got the chance to speak with Homecoming Queen Samantha Cardenas in our Week 9 Hogcast! The Aztecs gave a strong fight in the second half but ultimately it wasn't enough to beat The Cougars, with a final score of 36-22.

The Aztecs entered the game strong, Quarterback Anthony Parra found David Vargas in the end zone however not having the complete control of the ball it was called back to the 57 yard line. The next play would be a fumble recovered by San Ysidro, which would lead to a touchdown on 4th down. Cougar Quarterback Angel Guardo would find Jerimiah Martinez for the 19 yard touchdown pass putting them up 7-0.

In the second quarter San Ysidro marched down the field, Deishawn Lee would score his first of 3 touchdowns off the night on a short run. The Cougars successfully executed the 2-point conversion entering halftime with a score of 15-0.

After halftime San Ysidros’ Deishawn Lee would pick the ball, running it back for another Cougars score, however The Aztecs would answer back. Quarterback Anthony Parra would keep it to himself, with a good 2-point the conversion the score was 23-8 as they moved on to the fourth quarter.

Montgomerys’ Anthony Parra would start the fourth quarter off by rushing 24 yards to the end zone to add to The Aztecs effort. Unfortunately Parra would get injured on the 2-point conversion attempt, stopping the clock for a few minutes. Deishawn Lee of San Ysidro would answer right back with his 3rd touchdown of the night to put The Cougars up 30-14. The Aztecs never stopped fighting, Parra would find Gabriel Santoyo for the 22 yard touchdown pass. With a successful 2-point the conversion, The Cougars only led by 8. San Ysidros’ Jerimiah Martinez would run it in for 10 yard to secure The Cougar victory, with a final score of 36-22.

Next week, The Montgomery Aztecs (1-6) will move on to play The Southwest Raiders (2-6). As for The San Ysidro Cougars (3-5), they will be playing The Castle Park Trojans (1-7). The Aztecs and Cougars will meet again in Week 11 again at Montgomery High for a re-match.

PREVIEW: Week 9 of The Prep Pigskin Report takes us to The South Bay. To Montgomery High School where The Aztecs (1-6) will be hosting The San Ysidro Cougars (2-5). With both teams entering their first week of league play off bye weeks, they will need to come in focused and ready to put up a fight.

San Ysidro last week of play in Week 7 earned them their second win of the season against Escondido Charter School. The Cougars started the pace of the game off strong, scoring in just minutes. On the other side of the ball, the defense managed to hold Escondido to 0 points for the entire game.

Montgomery is coming off a loss from their last week of play, but the bye week gives them time to prepare and fix their mistakes in order to be successful. In Week 7 against Mar Vista, The Aztecs managed to score in the second half putting 7 point on the board.
