Torrey Pines Falcons 21, Carlsbad Lancers 14

Posted: Updated:

The Torrey Pines Falcons had an exciting come from behind win against the Carlsbad Lancers on their last home game of the regular season.  The final score was 21-14.

It was a busy night for the Falcons. Our Pigskin Idol was the Torrey Pines’ Head Coach Ron Gladnick’s daughter, Karina.  The Falcons celebrated Senior Night for the cheerleaders, dancers, and football players.  Lastly, WR Kevin Norwood presented Coach Gladnick with a check for being the Chargers’ Coach of the Week.

But the game started out in the Lancers favor.  QB Isaiah Ramos threw a long touchdown pass to Nathan Coe for 43 yards.  Falcons answered back on the next drive with a Luke Duerr 3 yard TD run.  It was knotted at 7.

Before the half, Carlsbad went in for another score.  This time Ramos found Trent Nyberg for a 53 yard touchdown catch and run down the sideline.  Carlsbad was up 14-7 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Falcons’ Jason Heine scored on a 5 yard run to tie it up again.  With only a few minutes left in the game on 4th and 1 at the goal line, the Torrey Pines decided to go for it.  It was Duerr that gave them the lead with a 1 yard TD run.  An INT by the Falcons’ defense in the last minute sealed the win for Torrey Pines.

Next week, Carlsbad returns home to take on the El Camino Wildcats.  Torrey Pines will travel to Mission Hills to face the Grizzlies.

PREVIEW: For Week 9, the Red Jackets along with our Pigskin Idol head to Torrey Pines High School where the Falcons (5-2) will take on the Carlsbad Lancers (1-6).

Friday night will be a busy one for the Falcons.  The Pigskin Idol is the Torrey Pines’ Head Coach Ron Gladnick’s daughter, Karina.  Plus, a few members of the Chargers will be on hand to present Coach Gladnick with a check for being the Chargers’ Coach of the Week.  On top of all that, the Falcons will be celebrating Senior Night.

Carlsbad is looking to snap their 4 game losing streak.  They played San Marcos last week, the final was 20-6 Knights.  Overall this season, the Lancers have rushed for 728 yards between Raphael Cooper and Jesse Atiga; they have passed for 1,041 yards behind QB Isaiah Ramos.  DE/TE, Cameron Thomas, is on the Iron Hog Watchlist this year.  Look for the Lancers to come out and play with a chip on their shoulder.

Torrey Pines is coming off a win in the Chick-Fil-A Game of the week, the Falcons beat the Oceanside Pirates 32-28.  It turned out to be the PPR’s upset of the night.  OL/LB Yujay Kurosu, also on the PPR Iron Hog Watchlist, recovered a game-sealing fumble to give Torrey Pines the win.  On offense, the Falcons tend to keep the ball on the ground.  They have 692 rushing yards on the season so far.  The Falcons will try to continue their momentum this Friday night.

Game time is 7 p.m. this Friday at Torrey Pines High School.  Tune in as our Pigskin Idol reads the highlights from this game on KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report, Friday night at 10:30 p.m.
