RECAP: What started out as a potential Upset of the Night, turned out to be exactly what we have seen from Rancho Bernardo all season. The Broncos took care of business again on Friday, beating the Westview Wolverines, 41-21.
Early turnovers by both teams, kept the game close, until Rancho Bernardo gained separation in the 2nd quarter. With Broncos star quarterback, Mark Salazar still out with an injury, it was backup quarterback, Christian Lewis, taking all the snaps under center.
The Broncos remain undefeated, despite not having one of their biggest weapons on the field, and that is thanks to the other star on this team, Silver Pigskin Watchlist member, Milan Grice. The Senior star running back finished the game with 22 carries, 147 yards and 4 touchdowns, including a 38-yard scamper in the 1st quarter to give the Broncos a 7-0 lead.
Westview responded right away with their own star running back, AJ Leonard. He punched it in from 2 yards out to tie it up. Moments later, Grice would fight his way into the end zone again to give the Broncos back the lead. Westview would not go away quietly though, going for it on 4th down in the 2nd quarter, scoring when Beau Nelson hooked up with Joe Bennett in teh endzone.
Grice went to to score 2 more times in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, leading The Broncos to a 41-21 victory.
Rancho Bernardo hosts Del Norte on Senior Night next week, while Westview gets Vista at home.
PREVIEW: The Rancho Bernardo Broncos (7-0) are currently enjoying an undefeated season through seven games to start the 2016 season. They're lead by Silver Pigskin Watch List member, Milan Grace, who leads the team in rushing with 814 yards so far this season.
Their opponent, the Westview Wolverines (1-6) are going in the opposite direction as they have struggled a bit this season. They won the first game of the season over Fallbrook. Since then, they've given up an average of 25 points per game and have been shutout in three games this season.
The Broncos will be playing for more than just their undefeated record. They currently sit in 2nd place behind Cathedral Catholic in the CIF San Diego Division 1 Power Rankings. The better the ranking, the higher seed the team will get going into the playoffs.
Rancho Bernardo currently sits atop the Palomar League Standings with rival, Poway Titans. Both teams are undefeated and a November 4th matchup is looming in the horizon. The key for the Broncos is not to look past teh Wolverines and take them lightly. Despite their struggles, the Wolverines finished last season tied for second place in teh Palomar League. They also edged The Broncos last year, 20-17.
