La Jolla Country Day 66, Horizon 20

Posted: Updated:

It was a dark and cold night in La Jolla, and everyone was distracted with the excitement of it being Senior night at the Country Day school, but the Torreys did not disappoint tonight. Despite the fight the Panthers put up, they were unable to take home a victory.

Forest quarter Braxton Burmeister kept the ball and took it 56 yards to a touchdown, first points of the night and the score was 7-0. Panthers were right behind them, Ayrom Harr took a pass and ran 38 yards for their first points on the board, point after attempt no good, 7-6 Torreys still up. La Jolla with the ball now, and they fumble it, but Jalen Nelson of Horizon recovers it and goes 80 yards for a touchdown! 2 point conversion attempt no good, but the are now in the lead 12-7.

Second quarter Horizon staying in the lead at this point, pass to Deandre Daniel, who wears number 22 in honor of the late Horizon alumni Markel Byrd, runs 11 yards for a touchdown. 2 point conversion is good, 20-14 Horizon. Country Day calls back and Burmeister again goes 50 yards for a touchdown! 21-20 La Jolla. At this time, is when La Jolla picks up all of the slack and charges through the game. Still in the second LJCD Brennan Goring takes the 26 yard touchdown pass to the end zone, 28-20 LJCD.

Final score of the game, 66-20. Make sure to watch next week as well to see how LJCD does against Santa Fe Christian and how Horizon does against Orange Glen.

PREVIEW:

Double digit weeks starts this week, week 10 of the Prep Pigskin Report got here in a blink of an eye! This week we head to La Jolla Country Day, where the Torrey's will host the Horizon Christian Academy Panthers on Senior Night. La Jolla Country Day Torreys coming in this week with a (6-2) overall record where as the Horizon Christian Academy Panthers have a (3-5) overall record.

In week 9, both teams unfortunately experienced a loss, which means they are coming into this week with the drive and hunger to take home the W. Both scoring at least 20 points, they hope to have higher scoring games this week on both ends.

Last week the Torreys played a rival at home, the Knights of the Bishop's school. Quarterback Braxton Burmeister took it upon himself to score their first touchdown before halftime and trying to motive the team to keep going even though they were down 27-7 at the half. Coming back into the 3rd, the Torreys recovered a kick return fumble and this put them into high gear. Back to back touchdowns came from Jaden Dir and Burmeister again putting them up close to the Knights, 27-21. They were unable to keep the momentum on their end and played out the last quarter with no scoring.

In week 9 the Panthers were on the road to Santa Fe Christian Eagles turf. This game was clearly played in honor of the late former Eagle, Will Wardip, who passed away 7 years back in a car accident. Though the Eagles came in fighting with both hands up, the Panthers clawed their way through to put points on the board. In the second quarter, Artyom Harr took the ball 34 yards to lock in their first 7 on the board. Despite many calls against them, the Panthers were able to leave with 20 points on the board but that wasn't enough for a W to take back home.

It is senior night this week for the Torreys, so the Panthers may be in for another fight in dedication to something on the Torreys end. Tune in at 10:30pm to catch the highlights!
