Poway Titans 51, Ramona Bulldogs 22

Posted: Updated:

Friday nights matchup between the Ramona Bulldogs (4-5) and Poway Titans (9-0) had a couple story lines before the game. Could Ramona’s Tristan Stacy break the CIF San Diego Section Record for kickoff returns for touchdowns for a season? He is currently tied with 4. Could the Poway Titans avoid the trap game against the Bulldogs and remain undefeated ahead of next weeks HUGE game with undefeated rival Rancho Bernardo?

The answers to those questions are No and Yes. Poway Coach Damian Gonzales devised a game plan that kept the ball out of the hands of Tristan Stacy and never let him break loose for many long runs. The Ramona Bulldogs, who entered the game riding a three game winning streak, kept the game close and only trailed by two points 16-14 at the half.

That all changed in the third quarter however when Poway’s Jared Adelman broke the game wide open and scored two of his four touchdowns on the night. Adelman had over 400 all purpose yards to go along with his 4 TD’s.

The game was not without controversy. The aforementioned Adelman was kicked out of the game after receiving his second unsportsmanlike penalty after scoring his fourth touchdown early in the fourth quarter. The penalty was questionable to say the least. Coach Gonzalez said after the game that he planned to appeal the penalty. If it should hold up, Jared Adelman would not be able to play in next weeks season finale game against Rancho Bernardo.

As for last nights game… Ramona hung tough and even led in the game in the first half. But Poway blew it open in the second half and would beat Ramona 51-22. The Bulldogs finish the regular season next week on the road against Del Norte.

The Ramona Bulldogs (4-4) are set to host the undefeated Poway Titans (8-0) on Friday night.

The Bulldogs are riding a three game winning streak. A streak that has seen Ramona average 40 points over those wins. The Bulldogs are led by "Mr. Do Everything", Tristan Stacy. Stacy is a standout on Offense, Defense and Special Teams. He is a Kickoff Touchdown return away from breaking the CIF San Diego record for Kickoff Return TDs in a season. Stacey is tied with Chula Vista's Harry Williams (2004) with 4.

Poway sits atop the Palomar League with Rival Rancho Bernardo. Both teams are undefeated and will face off on November 4th. The Titans are a balanced team that can score points in a variety of ways. They get it done from the ground, air and special teams play. The Titans will have to concentrate on their match-up with Ramona and not look past them.

Ramona Coach Damon Baldwin has his team playing some great football during the month of October. They can’t win the Palomar League Title, but a win over Poway and then Del Norte to close out the season, would go a long way for a good CIF Playoff Seeding.

Titans Head Coach Damian Gonzalez is one of the best Coaches in the County and will have the Titans ready to play. If Poway loses to Ramona, it will because Ramona was the better team on Friday night and not because the Titans were looking ahead to the game against Rancho Bernardo. You’ll hear no excuses and nothing but praise for the Bulldogs from the always classy Gonzalez.

Make sure to tune in on Friday for highlights from 31 total games across the county. The PPR starts at 10:30 and goes until midnight. See you then!
