Serra Conquistadors 42, Clairemont Chieftains 20

Posted: Updated:

The Clairemont Chieftains (5-3, 2-1) came into the house of the Serra Conquistadors (3-5,1-2) with an attitude they could run over anyone in their way. The Conquistadors had the mission to put on a show for their Homecoming crowd and that was the story of the game tonight.

Clairemont came out with a full rushing drive that ended in a touchdown by Junior running back Dylan Suitts to give them a 7-0 lead. Serra would come right back with a touchdown of their own by Junior running back Bryan Pratt. Pratt would leave this game with an injury and would not return.

With a next man up mentality worthy of the NFL, Serra leaned on Senior fullback William Harvey to carry the load on the ground. Harvey accomplished just that with two touchdowns pushing the Serra lead 21-7.

Clairemont thought they could gain ground on Serra with plays like a QB sneak by Griffin Catarius or a touchdown pass to Junior tight end Austin Rice but Serra always had an answer. Senior quarterback Joaquin Quintana-Mckinney threw for 2 touchdowns and Senior safety/running back John Serrata would get a game clinching interception then score a rushing touchdown on the following drive. Serra comes out victorious 42-20 over Clairemont.

Serra pulls off the upset over Clairemont to get their 4th win of the season. Clairemont will be back at home to host San Diego high school. Serra will host Patrick Henry in their final home game and a quest to break even on the season.

Preview:

This Week 9 matchup features the Clairemont Chieftains (5-3, 2-1) visiting the Serra Conquistadors (3-5, 1-2).

Clairemont is coming off a tough 48-6 loss to Coronado which broke a 3 game winning streak for the Chieftains. Serra had a home victory of 47-0 last week over Hoover at home. The win broke a 4 game losing streak for Serra and they will look to continue that momentum at home this week.

Serra is led by Junior running back Bryan Pratt with 596 yards and 10 touchdowns. They’ll lean on their running game to control the ball offensively and keep time of possession.

Serra’s defense is led by the dynamic duo of Senior safety John Serrata and Junior defensive lineman Earnesto Coleman. They both lead the team in tackles at 62 and will look to keep the defense anchored from top to bottom.

As for Clairemont, they will look to bounce back from last week’s loss and get back in the game for the Central Football division title. If Coronado loses at San Diego High then Clairemont will be in great shape with a victory over Serra.

We will have all the highlights Friday night at 10:30 p.m. on the KUSI Prep Pigskin Report. Make sure to follow @KUSIPPR on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat for all your social media extras. On-field coverage can be found @RedJacketArmy on Twitter & Instagram.
