The Chula Vista Spartans hosted not only the Mar Vista Mariners but hundreds of fans that go farther back than 1990 for their 70th homecoming celebration. The Mar Vista Mariners entered undefeated in league and remained so after their huge 40-12 win over the Spartans causing them to receive the Metro- South Bay League banner.
Excitement filled the stadium starting when gates opened at 4:30 pm. Lines were forming to get in and fans were holding down sections for their friends and family. From floats and fireworks to the end of the game, fans were hyped and going insane no matter what the scoreboard showed.
Chula Vista would get on the board first in their second drive as Sergio Figueroa would receive the handoff and zoom to the end zone for a 47-yard touchdown run.

PREVIEW: The final week of the regular season has quickly come upon us as it's Week 11 of the Prep Pigskin Report. However, the Chula Vista Spartans (5-4) can end their regular season with a party as it includes not only a matchup with the Mar Vista Mariners (7-2) but also a 70th anniversary homecoming celebration.
Homecoming festivities begin at 5:30pm with the parades and continue with kickoff being at 7pm at Chula Vista High.
The Mar Vista Mariners look to add a win to conclude their regular season with a 5 game winning streak. The Mariners currently lead the Metro - South Bay League with a record of 2-0. Last week, Mariners senior running back Khalil Spruill played the game of his life with four touchdowns on 11 carries. He is legitimately running full speed into this week to face the Spartans defense.
On the other hand, the Spartans are coming off a loss and looking to bounce back to improve their league record to 2-1. Chula Vista Spartan’s quarterback Paul Escobar typically shows off his arm and connects with Daniel Mcpherren just like he did last week facing Hilltop. Though Spruill is the Mariners go-to, the Spartans look to Sergio Figueroa on their end to get their offense rolling. Figueroa was also a key player in keeping them in the game last week.
Not only are the Spartans looking to improve their record, but with the help of Hilltop and a Lancer win over Sweetwater, there could be an interesting three-way tie for the League banner. If you’re heading out to the game, gates open at 4:30pm. If not, don’t worry because the PPR has got you covered starting at 10:30 Friday night.
