National City Mile of Cars South Bay Game of the Week: Mater Dei Crusader 28 Olympian Eagles 7

Posted: Updated:

The Week 11 South Bay Game of the Week features the powerhouse
Mater Dei Crusaders (8-1) hosting the Olympian Eagles (6-3). This game is indeed a big deal as the winner will be crowned as the champion of the Metro Mesa League.
Olympian's challenge will be to contain Crusader running back sensation C.J. Verdell. His numbers are amazing and read as follows: A total of 25 touchdowns scored including 22 rushing touchdowns leading  to over 1,500
all-purpose yards with an average of 188 yards per game.
One of the reasons Verdell is so hard to bring down is because of the  strength in his legs.
Before tonight's game an Olympian Coach said the key in containing Verdell is to throw as many tacklers at him as possible!
And wouldn't you know it...in the first quarter Verdell puts the Crusaders on the board with a dazzling 80-yard touchdown scamper.
In the second quarter Chris Jones throws a 62-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Moses to make it 13-0 Mater Dei.
In the third quarter Olympian makes things interesting when Nico Mendoza throws a touchdown pass to Isaiah Williams to make it 13-7 Mater Dei.
The score remains the same until the fourth quarter... evidence of the great defensive job by Olympian. But Verdell seals the deal with two rushing touchdowns...running for a total of 200 yards to make the final score 28-7 Mater Dei.
On this night Mater Dei becomes the first team in San Diego CIF section history to win league after being bumped up two divisions.
As always thanks for watching and see you next week for the first round of playoffs!
