The week 10 matchup between the San Pasqual Golden Eagles (6-4) and the Escondido Cougars (3-7) was decided on the opening kickoff. Escondido received the ball first. During the tackle, Cougar Starting Quarterback Kellen McCoy, playing special teams, was injured on the play.
His replacement, Cade Pannell played valiantly but was no match for the Golden Eagle Defense. The Cougars offense never made it past midfield till midway thru the fourth quarter. That was only because the Cougars Defense recovered a San Pasqual fumble, inside the Golden Eagles 30-yard line.
For their part, the Golden Eagles offense had no problem moving the ball or scoring points. San Pasqual's run-heavy offense saw seven different players get into the end zone. The scoring was started in the first quarter by Saud Carrillo. He scored on a six-yard TD run. That was followed by a 7-yard TD pitch and catch between QB Westin Erdman and Dylan Kane. 13-0 San Pasqual after one-quarter of play.
San Pasqual would score three more times in the second quarter to take a 34-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. They would score two more times in the second half to make the final score San Pasqual 48 Escondido 0.
The Golden Eagles will next visit and take on Granite Hills this Friday in the first round of the San Diego Section CIF Division Two Playoffs. For Escondido, their season has come to an end. Be sure to tune into The Prep Pigskin Report for all the playoff coverage you can handle.
We’ve reached week 10 of the Football Season and that means its Rivalry Week. Traditionally teams in the same city or rivals play in the final game of the regular season. That’s the case this Friday as the Escondido Cougars (3-6) will make the short drive South to face the San Pasqual Golden Eagles (5-4).
San Pasqual comes into the game with a one game winning streak, having beat Rancho Buena Vista 21-7 last week. While Escondido has struggled as of late, losing their last two games. Despite the losses, the Cougars have shown an ability to put points on the scoreboard. They have a strong ground game led by RB Taveous Vazquez while QB Kellan McCoy can air it out.
The Golden Eagles will counter with a strong Defensive Line and a QB by committee featuring Nick Hurst and Westin Erdman. They’ll have confidence in this game having beat the Cougars last season in week nine by the score of 10-7. If you can’t make it to the game, be sure to tune in to KUSI at 10:30PM to see all the highlights on The Prep Pigskin Report.
