Carlsbad High School (3-7, 1-5) closes out their season with a victory against Vista High School (3-7, 2-4), taking down the Panthers 17-7. In a cross-league matchup that featured two playoff hungry teams, Carlsbad’s stingy defense bested Vista at home.

The game started off slow with both offenses exchanging multiple three-and-outs. Lancer quarterback Isaiah Ramos could not find a gap in the Panther defense, as he was sacked for a 7-yard loss by middle linebacker Elijah Davis.

Vista’s offense had a drive going with Nico Rosas pounding his way for a 15-yard gain. The Panthers could not capitalize despite good field position.

In the second quarter, Carlsbad broke the scoreless tie thanks to a 57-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Isaiah Ramos to Joe Fontenot.

The second half featured scoring from both sides that added up into an exciting game. The Panther’s lone touchdown in the second half would not be enough to stop the Lancer’s scoring surge.

In the end, Vista’s inability to stop Isaiah Ramos led to a 17-7 Carlsbad win.
