Week 11 and regular season football has officially ended, and San Diego High School finished their football season with long awaited victory. This being their second win of the season and highest points put up so far this year with a 38 to 13 victory over the Clairemont Chieftains. Not a bad way to cap off the season for the Cavers.
Clairemont had an early lead to start the game in the first quarter. After Austin Rice ran the ball for a seven-yard touchdown to put the Chieftains up six-to nothing after a blocked extra point. San Diego would answer right back with an almost identical seven yard touchdown run by Indae Gammon to put the Cavers up 7-to-6. The rest of the game was all Cavers.
While the Cavers offensive was off to an explosive start the defense was playing like a different team as well. In the second quarter Clairemont’s Griffin Catarius pass was intercepted by Anthony G Martinez who would return the ball to the end zone for a pick-six, and with that the Cavers advance their lead to 14-to-6. The scoring didn’t stop there for San Diego; a 22-yard field goal was made by Trevor Teel to send the Chieftains into halftime up 17-to-6.
Entering into the third quarter San Diego was ready to prove they were both a first and a second half team. In the third quarter Raiden Hunter would take the ball 10 yards into the end zone to put the Cavers up by 18 points. Before the third would come to a close an explosive 39 yard touchdown run by Dejahn Hutsona would make the score 31-6, marking the highest points the Cavers have put up on the season thus far.
Clairemont and San Diego would both go on to score again in the fourth quarter to make the final score 38-to-13. With the conference win the Cavers finish the season 2-8 and the Chieftains fall to 5-5.
PREVIEW: Week 11 of the Prep Pig Skin Report is just days away. To bring the regular season to a close, the Clairemont Chieftains (5-4) will host the San Diego Cavers (1-8) in a conference game on Friday.
The Chieftains are 2-1 in the league putting them right behind Coronado High School who leads the league 3-0. The Cavers will look to tie their league record as they sit in the fourth spot with a 1-2 record.
The Cavers have not had an easy season however they were able to pull off their first victory to Crawford two weeks ago. Unfortunately they were unable to keep up the momentum in last weeks conference match up with Coronado, but look to bounce back in hopes of defeating the Chieftains in this coming conference game.
The Chieftains also will be pushing to get their final home win of the season in this conference matchup. They have lost their previous two games to Serra and Coronado, and are definitely hungry to close out their season with a victory and a winning record.
Last year when the two teams met up Clairemont walked away victorious with a 28-6 win over San Diego. Prior to last years match up the last time the two played against one another was in 2011 where Clairemont fell to the Chieftains 43-13.
Both the Chieftains and the Cavers will look to better their record both as a whole and in their conference. Will the Cavers come back from last weeks loss and take home a second season win or will the Chieftains advance to 6-4 with a final regular season home win?
