You never know what you will get in a rivalry game, add to that two 9-0 teams, and a league title and you a 35-14 win by Rancho Bernardo in the Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the Week.
Senior Running Back Milan Grice ran for 159 yards and three scores, as the Broncos win their 19th straight game. While it was the RB defense that held Poway and senior running back Jared Adelman in check for the whole 60 minutes, while racking up 7 sacks, two by Matt Roehrig and two more by Aric Tateyama.
Fresno State bound quarterback Mark Salazar who is just two week back from a broken collarbone, didn't need to do much, but when he did he threw a prefect pass to Junior wide receiver Malcolm Ross-Turner for a touchdown that put this one out of reach.
Poway will more than likely be the top seed in the division 2 playoffs, while Rancho Bernardo will await the math of the "CIF Power Rankings" to find out their fate and where they will be seeded in the Open Division.
There will not be a much better atmosphere at any high school football game in America on Friday night than there is in our Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the Week. The game features two of the five remaining undefeated teams in San Diego County, as Poway (9-0, 5-0) hosts defending CIF State Champion Rancho Bernardo (9-0, 5-0). This is as big as a regular season game can get, winner of this one wins the Palomar League outright, and that will be big for playoff seeding. While the biggest deal in all of this is that these two schools are rivals, and they do not like each other.
Damian Gonzalez’ Titans who rank 1st in the Division 2 Power Rankings have one of the best defenses in the county giving up just 11 points per game. And they are lead on both sides of the ball by running back/defensive back Jared Adelman who is coming his best game of the season, rushing for season high 310 yards and four touchdowns in a win at Ramona.
While Rancho Bernardo owns the sections longest winning streak at 18 straight, including their 1st state championship in 2015. The Broncos are have a stifling defense, giving up just 15 points, and two takeaways a game.
Three players that stand out on the film are running back Milan Grice, RB/DB Kaelan Pestano and Fresno State bound QB Mark Salazar who will play in his second game back from a broken collarbone.
If you plan to go to this game, get there early, because they are expecting a sellout crowd, including one of the top student sections in San Diego the “Green Gang.”
Since I have been so bad this season at picking winners early, I will tweet out my pick on Friday at 5:00 PM @Rickwillis99.
