State Assembly 78

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — San Diego's 78th State Assembly District is another one of those that will have a new representative this term.

Toni Atkins is this district's former assembly member, but she's out because of term limits, and is now running for state senator.

Democrat Todd Gloria has been endorsed by Atkins.

He's been on the city council since 2008 and was San Diego's mayor after Bob Filner resigned.

This is Republican Kevin D. Melton's second run at this seat. He ran unsuccessfully for this seat two years ago.

Melton worked on the campaign finance committee to elect Kevin Faulconer as mayor.
