Drunk-driver that caused head-on crash in Bonsall to be sentenced

Posted: Updated:

VISTA (KUSI) — A man who drove drunk and caused a head-on collision near Bonsall that killed a motorcyclist is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday at the
Vista Courthouse.

Christopher Henry, 27, was convicted at trial of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI in the Aug. 1, 2015 crash that killed 60-
year-old Richard Michael Rodriguez. Jurors acquitted the defendant of second-degree murder.

Henry — who has a 2008 misdemeanor DUI conviction from Riverside County — was arrested following the collision on West Lilac Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Henry allowed his Ford Mustang to drift out of the westbound lane of West Lilac into the eastbound lane near Via Giannelli, where the car hit Rodriguez's Victory motorcycle head- on, killing the victim.

A prosecutor said Henry admitted to drinking one beer before the accident, but investigators later learned he had been drinking at three places.

Henry's blood-alcohol level was measured at .08 percent — considered to be under the influence — an hour-and-a-half after the crash, the prosecutor said.
