Posted: Updated:

The first week of South Bay play-off action features the Otay Ranch Mustangs hosting the Mount Miguel Matadors. Both teams enter tonight's game with identical records of 3-7.
One of the big challenges for the Matadors is how to contain big Devin Lloyd who at 6'4", 220 pounds is a formidable threat on both offense and defense. As a wide receiver he has six touchdown receptions. As a free safety he has seven interceptions including several pick-sixes. He is also the team's punter!
The Mustangs take a 22-0 lead in the first quarter courtesy of a short run by Gus Espiritu and two touchdown runs by Fenuki Kauvaka including a 70-yard kick-off return.
In the second quarter Gus Espiritu runs it in for his second touchdown to make it 29-0 Mustangs.
The Matadors finally get on the board when Cesar Signals catches a pass from Bennie Valdez and runs it in for a 40-yard touchdown.150
In the third quarter Otay makes it 36-6 with a short run by Amari Riley.
Minutes later Riley motors into the end zone for a 55-yard score to make it 43-6 Mustangs.
In the fourth quarter the Matadors score their second touchdown on a run by Shamar Greene. Although Mount Miguel does a good job in containing Devin Lloyd, the final score is 43-13, Otay.
The Mustangs will now face powerhouse Mater Dei who they almost beat during the regular season. In that game they were successful in not allowing a single touchdown to running back sensation CJ Verdell...so stay tuned for a great South Bay playoff match-up!
