La Jolla Vikings had a dominating victory over the Del Norte Nighthawks 34-0. La Jolla came out of the gate putting up 21 points in the first quarter. La Jolla’s defense had a shutout game and was remarkable all night. Even the Vikings special teams had a great night as they blocked a field goal, punt, and returned a punt for a touchdown. Del Norte struggled to get across mid-field and penalties were a factor all night for the Nighthawks. Viking’s quarterback Cole Dimich finished with 225 passing yards and 1 passing touchdown. Alex Dockery tacked on 2 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown. It was a great night for the Viking defense and offense.
The season comes to an end for the Del Norte Nighthawks but it was a great season for Coach Coleman and they will be back ready to play next season. The La Jolla Vikings move on to face the undefeated Bishop Knights. Bishop had a first round bye and knows that La Jolla has some momentum after a first round playoff win. Preview: The 7th seeded Del Norte Nighthawks (4-6) will open up the division 3 playoffs on Friday by hosting the 10th seeded La Jolla Vikings (6-4) in a great match-up. Del Norte is coming off a 3 game losing streak to close the regular season but knows they have what It takes to pull off an opening round playoff victory. The La Jolla Vikings are coming off a 4 game winning streak with some highly built momentum coming in to playoffs. The Vikings put a beating on Hoover 58-0 to close out the regular season last week.
The Del Norte offense will be led by quarterback Jake Moore who has a terrific season so far. Moore has had great success with his two favorite receivers Anthony Ulrich and Ty Anderson. On the defense of side for nighthawks, Scott McKirdy has been an outstanding tackler and D’Angelo Gunter is a highly recruited DB that the Vikings will have to avoid.
The La Jolla Vikings offense is led by quarterback Cole Dimich who is a huge threat passing but can also run the ball effectively. Senior running back Alex Dockery will be a huge threat as he is just past 1,000 all-purpose yards this season. The Viking’s defense is led by Daniel McColl who has as impressive 80 tackles this season. McColl is not just a defense of player as you will see him blocking for Dockery as a fullback or will run the ball as he has over 400 rushing yards this season.
