The Morse Tigers move on to the next round of playoffs as they beat the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns 36 to 22. They will be facing Valley Center which is a rematch of last year’s playoffs where Morse lose to them 14 to 0.
Tonight’s game had a slow start, but the momentum picked up in the second quarter. Timothy Patrick scored a rushing touchdown in the second quarter to give the Tigers the lead 7 to 0 and it was all Morse from there. Patrick had 2 rushing touchdowns. Martell Irby also had 2 rushing touchdowns. Morse defense shut out the Longhorns in the first half. The Longhorns scored 3 touchdowns in the second half, but the game was already decided by then.
Rancho Buena Vista’s Anthony Bowman had 2 rushing touchdowns. Trent Borger had 1 receiving touchdown. The Longhorns fell short tonight, but they should be proud of their performance and they should keep their heads up high.
For Morse if Patrick and Irby can repeat their performances and their defense can play great like they did tonight, they will get their revenge with Valley Center . That game will be next Friday at 7 pm at Valley Center.
PREVIEW-It’s playoff football time as the (6-4) Tigers of Morse High School host the (3-7) Longhorns of Rancho Buena Vista in the first round of the Division III section. Their game instead of being on Friday, it is now on Thursday at 7 pm because of Friday being Veteran’s day.
Rancho Buena Vista return to the playoffs after missing it last year. In their final week of the regular season they beat Fallbrook 20 to 10. For Morse they’re returning back to the playoffs. Morse also won their final game of the regular season against Mira Mesa 31 to 15. Both teams are coming off wins so they want to keep that motivation going.
The players to look out for Morse are Markus Turner, Martell Irby, and Timothy Patrick Jr.. Markus is their quarterback, he uses his feet to help him score touchdowns as he had 14 rushing touchdowns in the regular season. For Martell and Timothy they also can run the ball well, as Martell had 15 rushing touchdowns in the regular season and Timothy had 12 rushing touchdowns. If the Longhorns can’t stop this dynamic trio it’s going to be a long night for them.
For the Longhorns the player to look out for is Trent Borger as he had 5 receiving touchdowns in the regular season. Whoever wins this game face Valley Center in the next round and for the Morse Tigers if they win this game it will be a rematch of last year’s playoff game where Morse loss to Valley Center 14 to 0. That will give Morse more of a motivation to win so they can get revenge from last year’s defeat.
