Westview Wolverines 35, Brawley Wildcats 7

Posted: Updated:

The #9 seeded Westview Wolverines (3-7) traveled two hours to the Imperial Valley to take on the #8 seeded Brawley Wildcats in the first round of the CIF Division 2 Playoffs . On paper, it looked like Brawley was the better team, but from the opening kickoff, Westview dominated on both sides of the ball.

The Wolverine's Defense forced 5 turnovers (4 interceptions, 1 fumble). The defensive leader for Westview was Ryan Marasco who had two interceptions and forcing a fumble that he recovered. The Offensive star for Westview was AJ Leonard. He scored three touchdowns and rushed for 202 yards.

Brawley for their part couldn't get anything going offensively. They fell behind quickly 14-0 in the first quarter. Westview led 21-0 at halftime. They would score two more touchdowns in the second half. Brawley would score a late touchdown, but it was too little too late. Westview won 35-7. They will next face Poway. Westview already lost too Poway earlier this season 31-6.

PREVIEW

After 10 weeks of exciting High School Football, we've reached the playoffs. In the opening round of the Division Two playoffs, the Westview Wolverines (3-7) are making the long drive out to the Imperial Valley to take on the Brawley Wildcats (7-3).

Westview is battled tested having finished in the middle of the pack in the very tough Palomar League. The Wolverine offense has struggled this season, however. They've been shut out in five of their seven losses.

Brawley enters the playoffs rolling. They're riding a six-game winning streak and are averaging 41-points a game in their seven wins this season. Two of their three losses came against (10-0) Christian and (9-1) Valley Center respectively. Those losses came in the first two games of the season. Since then Brawley hasn't lost to a team from California.

Kickoff is a little after 7:00pm on Thursday night. If you can't make it out the game, be sure to watch the highlights on the "All Sports Report" on KUSI News. Then tune in to "The Prep Pigskin Report" on Friday night to see the highlights again and also to see highlights from the all playoff action.
