Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the Week: Vista Pant - KUSI News - San Diego, CA

Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the Week: Vista Panthers 23, Ramona Bulldogs 11

Posted: Updated:

RECAP: For the second time this season, we saw Vista (4-7) go up the hill and beat Ramona (5-6), 23-11 in the Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the week.

Vista’s Offensive and Defensive lines were the difference in this one forcing two 1st half turnovers, while giving Senior running back Nico Rosas to run through gaping holes on his way to 100+ yards and two touchdowns.

Vista’s “Black Shirt Defense” allowed only one touchdown on a blown Coverage late in the 4th Quarter when the was well in hand.

Ramona’s season is over, but they have a great nucleus of your talent for 2017, While Vista will travel to San Marcos High School next Friday (11/18) to face the Knights for the second time this season.

PREVIEW: The Escondido Cycle Center North County Game of the Week kicks off the best part of high school football…playoffs!  As the #12 Vista (3-7, 2-4) travels up the hill to take on #5 Ramona (5-5, 3-3) in the 1st round of the division one playoffs.

While Vista’s record doesn’t indicate it, the Panthers are a program on the rise,  on of their three wins was a 28-20 win at Ramona on their homecoming back in week 5.  The Panthers are loaded with underclassmen, add that to the fact that their freshman team went 9-1,  and this game will be a real test on the big stage for Vista. 1st year head coach Dave Bottom has gone back to the old Dick Haines tradition of pounding the ball via the running game and playing their old school “Black Shirt Defense”.

Ramona is also young, but they have the most dynamic returner in San Diego County in Junior Tristan Stacy.  In Ramona’s 10 games this season Stacy has already tied the CIF record of 4 kick-offs returned for a touchdown, as he averages 171.9 all purpose yards per game. So don’t be surprised to see Vista do everything they can to keep the ball away from #2.

If you plan to go to this game, bring your appetite.  The “Bulldog Snack Bar” is the best in all of San Diego.  They offer amazing food at great prices, highlighted by the “Pulled Pork Sandwich”.

Highlights of this game and 21 others will be on the Prep Pigskin Report on Friday night at 10:30 PM.
