In the quarterfinals of the CIF division 2 playoffs we traveled to Poway as the number 1 ranked Poway Titans played host to the number 9 ranked Westview Wolverines. These two teams met back in October with the Titans winning 31-6.
First quarter action and Poway waste little time getting on the board when Jared Adelman who had a huge night on the ground with a 1 yard touchdown to put the Titans up 7-0 early.
Let's jump to the second quarter and Poway lining up to punt when the snap goes over the kickers head and out of the end zone for a safety put the Wolverines on the board Poway still lead 7-2. After a nice Adelman run the Westview defense stepped when Nolan Donnelly got a huge sack to end the half which was one of the five sacks on the first half.
Third quarter starts with Poway driving and the Wolverines are able to get an interception in their own end zone. They capitalized on great field position when quarterback Beau Nelson finds a wide open AJ Leonard for a 69 yard touchdown pass to give Westview they're first lead of the night 9-7 Wolverines. Poway did not take the score lightly as they kept pounding away on the ground when Jared Adelman was able to break through the defense for a 49 yard touchdown run to give the Titans back the lead 14-9.
Fourth quarter and Wolverines with some help from some penalties were able to get to mid field before Beau Nelson connected with his favorite target Emeka Anyanwu who caught a quick curl route and was able to break tackles for a 38 yard touchdown to put the Wolverines back on top 15-14. As I mentioned earlier Adelman had himself a night as the next possession for Poway he took a forest snap and gained huge yardage two plays later he would scamper 24 yards for his 3rd touchdown of the night to put the Titans back on top 20-15. Westview managed to get a good drive going until Beau Nelson was picked off by Cody Slawson on 4th down on the goal line, Poway would punt after a 3 and out. Then it was like seeing double when Slawson baited Nelson into a bad pass again to get the interception. With better field possession Adelman broke off yet another big run to help Poway all but seal the win, until he scored for his 4th and final touchdown from 17 yards out to put the game out of reach 27-15.
The Titans would get a sack in the end zone for safety for a final score of 29-15 and will sweep the season series with Westview and will now host the Olympian Eagles who knocked off Granite Hills 40-26, in a home game next week for the division 2 semifinals.

PREVIEW: In the second round of the CIF San Diego Section Playoffs we have a pivotal division 2 match up as the (4-7) Westview Wolverines will travel to Poway to face off verse the (9-1) Titans. The Titans will be coming off a first round bye after suffering a 35-14 loss in their last regular season game verse rival Rancho Bernardo.
Poway is lead by star running back Jared Adelman who has surpassed 1,000 yards rushing on the season and as a team Poway has put up big numbers offensively scoring over 340 points. The Titans will look to continue that trend to a Westview defense who has struggled on the season giving up over 200 points for the season.
The Wolverines last 2 games have been the best the team has played on the season starting with a 34-13 win over rival Mt.Carmel and then a first round 35-7 win over Brawley. Lead by senior running back Aj Leonard who scored 3 rushing touchdowns last week, the team has really jumped on his back with the emotion of playing for his passed mother Julie Leonard. Leonard is no the only player for the Wolverines to step as quarterback Beau Nelson has come alive as of late with at least 1 passing and rushing touchdowns in the teams two last wins.
