El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week Preview: Santana Sultans vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

Posted: Updated:

The Semifinal edition of the El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week brings us to Monte Vista High School for the first time this season.  The 2 seed Monarchs (7-4) are hosting the 3 seed Santana Sultans in this all east county Division IV match up.

This game is a rematch of week eight’s Grossmont Valley League contest that the Sultans won 46-40.  Monarch Head Coach Ron Hamamoto said of that shootout that his team “got away from what we normally do.  We typically run the ball and manage the clock more.”  He said they will be looking to get back to that approach this Friday, and that if they are able to play solid defense and slow the Sultans high powered offense down, the Monarchs have a good chance to win.

Santana comes into the game looking to keep their running and passing games balanced and explosive.  Junior Quarterback Josh Oedewaldt had four touchdowns the last time these two teams played, and Coach Hamamoto considers him one of the top quarterbacks in the county.  The Sultans also benefit from the performance of Running Back Bobby Wallace who has 1353 yards on the season and has broken a number of Santana offensive records.  Sultans Head Coach Tim Estes said his team is heavily senior dominated, and as a result the guys are “jacked up.  The senior group wants to win it all.”

The winner of this game will face the winner of Southwest El Centro and La Jolla Country Day on Friday December 2 at 3pm.

We will have previews of this game during the Pre-PR on Friday from 5pm – 7pm and complete highlights during the Prep Pigskin Report.
