San Diego Cavers 54, Francis Parker Lancers 7

Posted: Updated:

The Cavers of San Diego High hosted the Francis Parker Lancers, but they weren’t very nice hosts. The Cavers (2-0) put a Stone Age beat down on the Lancers (0-3) by a final of 54-7.  The story of this match was definitely the line play of Francis Parker. The defensive line could not stop the offensive rushing attack of the Cavers.  George Gomez and Jayden Wickware both had two rushing TD’s and Quinn O’Connor threw a beautiful strike to Thomas Marcus for a TD in the first half. The offensive line for the Lancers didn’t fare much better. The constant pressure the San Diego defense put on Lancer quarterback, Ryan Sanborn, was relentless. With no time to get their offense in sync, the Lancers had a difficult time getting the ball down the field. Caver, Michael Clewis, was often found in the Lancer backfield wreaking havoc on the running game as well as the passing game. The lone bright spot for Francis Parker came at the end of the first half when John Gordon took a kickoff return 88 yards to the house for the only Lancer score of the game. Next week Francis Parker will try to right their ship as they play host to the Torreys of La Jolla Country Day. Meanwhile, the undefeated Cavers will play host to the Montgomery Aztecs.

PREVIEW: This week my travels will take me to San Diego High School (1-0) as the Cavers will play host to the Francis Parker Lancers (0-2).  After getting run over in their home opener, the Lancers lost a close one on the road to the likes of the Clairemont Chieftains. Star player Ryan Sanborn does it all. He plays quarterback, defensive back, place kicker and punter. Not to mention he leads his team in rushing and TDs. However, this is a team game. If the Lancers want to get in the win column, they have to find a way to plug up the holes on their rushing defense. So far they have given up over 700 rushing yards to their opponents.

The San Diego Cavers are coming off a bye week, but they are still walking tall around campus after their convincing 28-7 week one win over the Southwest Raiders. Quarterback Quinn O’Connor had an impressive game throwing 3 TD passes to WR Thomas Marcus. Along with the passing game, the Cavers also have a strong running game. Raiden Hunter and Jayden Wickware accounted for 154 of the teams 158 yards on the ground. They will be looking to gobble up yards against the Lancers this week.
