Posted: Updated:

The Week 3 South Bay Game of the Week features the Poway Titans traveling to Chula Vista to take on the Olympian Eagles. Both teams enter Friday night's contest with similar records of 1-1.  At the end of four quarters Olympian now has a record of 2-1.
Poway enters this contest with a real dilemma....Head Coach Scott Coates says half of players are battling the flu with some starters not able to play.
Minutes from the end of the first quarter it's 13-0 Eagles courtesy of a Nico Mendoza pass to Mikael Tyler and a 90-yard run by Rashaun Brown. Poway makes it 13-7 on a pass from T.J. Elkinton to Andrew Tejeda.
In the second quarter Olympian Quarterback Nico Mendoza runs for 23 yards to make it 21-14 Eagles.
At the end of the quarter Poway's Josh Butler runs it in to tie the game at 21. Minutes later Poway takes the lead on a beautifully thrown 40-yard pass from T.J. Elkinton to Andrew Tejeda.
In the third quarter the Titans widen their lead to 34-21 on a short run by Josh Kramer. Olympian then makes it 34-28 on a run by Arnold Escano. Minutes later a quarterback keeper by Poway's T.J. Elkinton makes it 41-28 Titans.
At the start of the fourth quarter Olympian narrows Poway's lead to six on an Isaiah Williams run.
Then in the fourth quarter with less than four minutes to go, Treyvion Davies runs it in to tie the game at 41. The extra point is good to give the Eagles the 42-41 victory...a real accomplishment considering they were trailing for most of the game!

PREVIEW

The Week 3 South Bay Game of the Week features the Poway Titans traveling to Chula Vista to take on the Olympian Eagles. Both teams enter Friday night's contest with similar records of 1-1. The Titans took quite a drubbing from Lincoln last week while the Eagles were beaten by Grossmont.
Eagles' Quarterback Nico Mendoza is off to a great start throwing-wise. He is averaging three touchdown passes per game with a total of six TD passes over two games.  Word is a disciplined and rigorous summer workout regimen helped to strengthen his throwing arm.
On defense the Eagles are lead by Rock Gonzalez who after playing in only one game has amassed 17 tackles...12 of which have been solo tackles.
Poway's Head Coach is Scott Coats, who in his first year, has some big shoes to fill. He takes over for veteran Head Coach Damian Gonzalez who in his final year accomplished this: 8 straight victories at the beginning of the 2016 season.
The Eagles also have a fine veteran Head Coach in Norm Van Nostrand. When he is not coaching he is in the classroom teaching American history. Coach says his favorite era of history is World War II.
Please join us for all of the South Bay highlights from this game which will air just after 10:30 on Friday night on the PPR. In our earlier Friday newscasts we will showcase the Olympian cheerleaders....some say the best athletes on the field!
