Posted: Updated:

SAN MARCOS (KUSI) —Sheriff’s Search and Rescue efforts have been suspended for a missing person in San Marcos after the body of a man was found.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine if the body is that of 62-year-old Sam Sangeae Kim. The M.E.’s Office will also determine cause and manner of death.

Mr. Kim was reported missing around 4:00 p.m. Friday by his family. He was last seen around 10:00 a.m. Friday at a senior living center located in the 600 block of Woodward Street.

The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit was activated. SAR volunteers and deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station looked for Mr. Kim until 2:00 a.m. Saturday. SAR resumed the search at 5:45 Saturday morning.

Just before 10:30 a.m., a SAR volunteer searching a dirt trail along the 1000 block of N. Twin Oaks Valley Road found a body matching the description and clothing of the missing person.

The Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) is an all-volunteer unit. Together, they perform wilderness and urban rescues, as well as search for missing and at-risk persons. Teams are available 24 hours per day to respond to local, state and federal agency requests.
