Burglary suspect stabbed by homeowner during Fairmont Village home invasion

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A burglary suspect suffered a non-life threatening stab wound to the stomach when he forced his way into a home in Fairmont Village and was stabbed by the residence's homeowner, a police officer said Sunday.

A couple were inside their home on the 4600 block of Dwight Street when they heard Gustavo Fernandez, 23, pounding on the front door at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.

"The suspect broke a window, reached in and opened the front door," Heims said. "He entered the house and confronted the residents. The male victim stabbed the suspect in the stomach and then ran out of the house. The suspect chased the victim outside."

Fernandez continued to chase the homeowner until police arrived and took him into custody. He was then transported to an area hospital, where he was
treated for non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Police did not release Fernandez's residency.
