New Mexico mother turns herself in after kidnapping three sons, prompting Amber Alert

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (KUSI) — The mother of the three kidnapped little boys turned herself in Sunday evening, hours after the California Highway Patrol activated an Amber Alert across Southern California.

Cellphones in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties went off with alarms at about 2:30 p.m. today, some 7 hours after the mother kidnapped her children in Albuquerque.

That is an 11-and-a-half hour car trip non-stop, across half of New Mexico, and all of Arizona and California.

Walker-Anderson was believed to have taken the boys in her silver 2009 Kia Spectra. The car was seen at about 4 a.m. headed west on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque.

Police in New Mexico, Arizona and across California were told to look for the car.

Just after 5 p.m. Sunday evening, authorities found Walker-Anderson's car in the city of La Verne but she and her children were still missing.

Laria Walker-Anderson turned herself in to the Lancaster Sheriff's Department with her three kids a couple hours later.

Lloyd Wyatt, 9, Lakai Wyatt, 8 and Lexington Wyatt, 6, all described as young African-American boys, have been missing from their home since early Sunday morning.

Lloyd was said to be 65 pounds, 3-foot-6 and was last seen wearing ''Despicable Me'' pajamas. Lakai is also 65 pounds and 3-foot-6, has short dreadlocks and was last seen in gray pajamas. Lexxington is 50 pounds, three feet tall and was last seen in yellow and white shorts.

Walker-Anderson, also African-American, is 5-foot-4 and weighs 132 pounds.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office said Walker-Anderson had a loaded gun in her possession.
