Two San Diego schools receive national recognition for being among healthiest schools in the country

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Two San Diego schools are being nationally recognized for being among the healthiest schools in the country.

Congratulations to Rosa Parks Elementary and Birney Elementary.

The schools were honored by "The Alliance for a Healthier Generation" for each of the school's extraordinary wellness program.

Birney Elementary School was given the Bronze Award for the school's extraordinary wellness program.

At Birney elementary,their running club is highly regarded as being one of the best. "We have a running club every single morning.  We are tracking our miles last year.  We did over 9,000 miles. The balancing of healthy food and exercise, rest and water.  I think it sets them up for later on in life." said Coach Carol Lord, PE teacher at Birney.

The schools hands on garden also allows students to harvest and taste the foods they grow.
