Groundbreaking held for new specially-adapted smart home for local wounded warrior

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A ground-breaking took place Friday for a new "specially-adapted smart home" for a severely-wounded warrior.

The smart home was designed for medically retired Marine Staff Sergeant Brandon Dodson, who was injured from an IED while deployed in Afghanistan.

For the last several years, the Dodson family has not only been dealing with Brandon’s medical issues, but living in residences not conducive to Brandon’s losing of both his legs above the knee during his fifth deployment in Afghanistan.

That's why a Friday morning in a new housing development called Sagewood Hills in Vista's Buena Creek area was filled with joy-- the Dodson’s new home will be adapted to Brandon’s needs.

“It's going to be a huge deal, huge, life changing, it’s a cliché but truly life changing,” Brandon said.

He also says with a laugh, it's got AC which the dodson's current home at Camp Pendleton doesn't have.

This is yet another specially adapted home built through actor Gary Sinese's foundation and the foundation's many partner's local and national-- for example the developer here provided the land at well-below market price.

Sometime next year, a new home, with AC, will be ready for a very deserving family.
