This week four matchup proved to be a one-sided battle. The Crawford Colts were too much for the El Cajon Valley Braves to handle. The final of this game was 35-0.
The game started off as a defensive battle. Each offense settled for a couple three and outs or turnover on downs. El Cajon Valley’s defense showed promise when Dwight Brewer intercepted a pass and set up the Braves with good field position. Unfortunately for the Braves their offense was unable to capitalize on good field possession. It wasn’t until the second quarter when the Colts offense started clicking. The duo of Quarterback Shawn Balala to Ali Musa was red hot. They connected for three touchdowns in the second quarter. Two of the touchdowns were on fade routes where Musa showcased his jumping ability and came down with the ball. The third touchdown was on a slant route where Balala perfectly placed the ball where only his receiver could come away with the catch. Niko Perry once again showcased his speed and scored on a rush from 32 yards out. At the beginning of the third quarter it was Matthew Clark who got his name called for the 15-yard touchdown run.
Next week El Cajon Valley will look to rebound while playing host to a winless Sweetwater team. Crawford will look to remain undefeated against Mountain Empire.
The Crawford Colts are still forced to play their home games on another schools campus. Construction of their stadium is expected to finish by the middle of October. For their week four matchup, the (3-0) Colts will play host to the (1-2) El Cajon Valley Braves. The game will be played at Hoover High School.
El Cajon Valley comes off a strong showing against Clairemont in which they won 32-21. The Braves have started off games with an electric offense but have struggled to score late in the game. Junior Quarterback, Deandre Kelmon will be the player to watch in this game. His ability to extend a play with his legs will keep the Crawford defense on the field, which could prove to be the deciding factor in this game.
Crawford has put on three strong showing so far this season, with a point differential of +83. Their average margin of victory to date is 27.66 points. Their strong Senior Class has led the Colts so far this season. Quarterback Shawn Balala has averaged 158 yards per game. He is a dual threat with a strong arm and the ability to use his legs when needed. Niko Perry is another threat for the Colts offense. His speed around the edge could prove to be too much for the Braves defense. Ali Musa has 117 yards receiving and two touchdowns so far this season. Look for Musa to try to add to his stat line this week.
