The San Diego Cavers remain undefeated after hosting the Holtville Vikings

Posted: Updated:

The San Diego Cavers end Week 5 undefeated after hosting the Holtville Vikings who fall to 2-3.  The Cavers took off and never looked back with a final score of 49-0.

On the first Holtville drive, the Vikings fumble and Cavers’ Chris Mantua recovers causing one of the touchdown runs for Raiden Hunter.  Next Vikings’ possession, San Diego’s defense holds Holtville’s offense with a big play by Joshua Wheeler.  San Diego would then take a 14-0 lead with a 33 yard touchdown run by Thomas Marcus.

In the second quarter, San Diego quarterback Quinn O’Connor finds Thomas Marcus for a 34 yard touchdown extending the Cavers lead 28-0.  Though the offense was on a roll, Chris Mantua comes up big blocking Holtville’s punt.  Mantua puts the Cavers offense in great field position as George Gomez runs it in for the touchdown.

Raiden Hunter having a night with his second touchdown in the second half.  He dodges and spins around Holtville defenders for a 43 yard touchdown run.  These Cavers looked like nothing could stop them.

San Diego remains undefeated as they host the Clairemont Chieftains (2-3) for a conference game.  The Holtville Vikings take another road trip for their game against Escondido Charter (0-5).

PREVIEW: As we head into the fifth week of the high school football season, we take a look at the schools who are maintaining a winning record.  One of those schools is San Diego High. The Cavers are coming into Week 5 with a record of 3-0 as they get ready to host the Holtville Vikings (2-2) for the matchup at Balboa Stadium.

The Cavers dominated last week in their 41-0 win over Montgomery.  The key to this big win had to be there power house offense. Quarterback Quinn O’Connor threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns.  O’Connor doesn’t just have one or two go-to players. In fact, here are a few players he does have: James Henderson, Raiden Hunter, Thomas Marcus, and Jayden Wickware. And those are just the recent players he has found going for his offense.

On the defensive side, Eric Orfanos has been holding his end with 31 total tackles on the year so far.  However, it isn’t a man show.  Other notable defensive players are Raiden Hunter, Daniel Thomas, George Gomez, Joshua Wheeler and Daniel Loya all with ten or more total tackles recorded thus far.

As for the Cavers opponent, the Holtville Vikings’ all-around player is Andy Pascual. He has been a receiver and running back for quarterback Jace Heraz.  In addition to his offense capabilities, Pascual has made an impact as defensive end.  Helping him out on defense are David Heraldez and Pedro Sauceda.  With O’Connor being able to use different men on the Cavers offense, expect Pascual, Heraldez, and Sauceda to be on their toes and lead their defense to make some crucial stops.

Will the San Diego Cavers power through another win to extend their record to 4-0 or will the Holtville Vikings find a loophole to the Cavers offense to give them their first loss of the season?  Tune into the Prep Pigskin Report on Friday night at 10:30pm to find out!
