Game of the Week: San Marcos Knights 36, El Camino Wildcats 14

Posted: Updated:

What a game this Game of the Week turned out to be pitting the  El Camino Wildcats (3-2) against the San Marcos Knights (5-0), resulting in yet another win for the undefeated San Marcos Knights 36-14.

The plays started early with an El Camino punting to San Marcos, but with a bad snap, punter Kevin Perez fumbled the ball that was recovered by San Marcos's Colin Mathiszick's. Ethan Cline made the first touchdown for San Marcos giving them an early lead. El Camino fumbled again. but San Marcos's Brandon Pinkston was able to recover the ball. San Marcos's John Bornes scored the second touchdown from a three yard run, bringing the score to 14-0, San Marcos. Knights' Miles Hastings completed a 32 yard pass to Kyle Philips, setting up Ethan Cline to score another touchdown, this one a 2 yard run. El Camino made their first touchdown of the night when Wayne Steward scored a 19 yard touchdown, bringing the halftime score to 21-7 San Marcos.

Second half started with more San Marcos domination. Josh Bornes scored a one yard touchdown run for the Knights'. Miles Hastings from San Marcos threw an interception, which was caught by El Camino's Donnel Frazier. Jaden Casey from El Camino scored the Wildcats last touchdown, with a 12 yard touchdown pass to Wayne Steward.

Although El Camino came back in the second half, the ending score of 36-14 San Marcos leaves the Knights' undefeated and El Camino with something to prove. Both of these teams will have a bye week, which means they will both come back in two weeks ready to play for vengeance!

Preview: This week’s Game of the Week will take us back to the North County as the San Marcos Knights (4-0) try to defeat the Wildcats from El Camino (3-1) and keep their record undefeated. The Avocado League is underway as well as one of the toughest Leagues in San Diego this year.

The Knights are coming off a big win against the Oceanside Pirates and are being led by junior quarterback Miles Hastings, where we will most likely see him passing the ball to UCLA commit Kyle Phillips who averages 87.5 yards a game. Josh Bornes, an SDSU commit, leads his team in tackles as well as running the ball and scoring 3 touchdowns for the Knights.

The Wildcats may have lost one game, but their scoring this season has been high, which should make for an interesting game against the Knights. Jaden Casey, senior quarterback, has 928 passing yards this season.  Malachi Russell, leading receiver for the Wildcats, has caught for 405 yards and scored 5 touchdowns in the first 4 games this year. Chris Brown is another standout at El Camino rushing for 393 yards and scoring 7 touchdowns.

Will the Knights be able to keep their perfect record and defeat another league opponent, or will the Wildcats take down the Knights? Find out on the Prep Pigskin Report Friday at 10:30 pm, and follow @Redjacketarmy on Twitter for game updates!
