Montgomery Aztecs 48, Calipatria Hornets 6

Posted: Updated:

Week 6 is in the books, and the Montgomery Aztecs get back in the win column, beating the Calipatria Hornets by the score of 48-6.  Montgomery snaps its two game losing streak and improves its record to (3-3) while Calipatria falls to (2-4) with the loss.

The Aztecs scored early and often in this one, as Rahien Williams took a reverse 44 yards to the house to put Montgomery up 7-0.  Following a Hunter Joseph rushing touchdown, a blocked punt scoop and score, and a pick six by Williams, Montgomery headed into the locker room with a 27-0 halftime lead.

The points didn’t stop there either, as David Vargas extended the Montgomery lead 34-0, with his 69-yard quarterback keeper in the third quarter.

It was all Montgomery tonight, as six different Aztecs found the end zone.  Montgomery dominated all three phases of the ball, racking up two blocked punts, a handful of sacks, and a pick six.   The Aztecs will get next week off, but will hope to build from there momentum, as they head on the road to face (1-4) Francis Parker in Week 8.

PREVIEW:

The (2-3) Calipatria Hornets will travel three hours west to the South Bay, to take on the (2-3) Montgomery Aztecs, in this Week 6 matchup on Friday night.

Montgomery will play its second home game in a row after losing to the Clairemont Chieftains last Friday by the score of 14-0.

The Aztecs hope to attack the Hornets with their stout run game, led by senior running back, Hunter Johnson.

After eclipsing 200 yards rushing in Week 2 and Week 3, Johnson has had a hard time finding his groove since.  Even with the recent struggles on offense the past couple weeks, Montgomery head coach, Sanj Subbiah will have his guys ready for the challenge.

Calipatria heads into Al Prazak Stadium with a ton of steam, after defeating Riverside Prep, 30-28.  The Hornets have not fared too well on the road this season, and are winless with a 0-2 record outside of Calipatria.  The Hornets will look to change that this Friday night at 7:00 pm.

Highlights and results from this game and many other games in San Diego County can be seen on the Prep Pigskin Report on KUSI at 10:30 pm.  Make sure to follow our social media accounts @kusippr and @redjacketarmy and stay connected with high school game updates throughout the weekend.
