La Jolla Country Day Torreys 32, Tri-City Christian Eagles 8

Posted: Updated:

Tri-City Christian High School had a memorable night last night, but maybe not for the reasons they wanted. The school unveiled its new lighting system that allowed the football team to play on their home field without the use of rented portable lights powered by a generator, for the first time.

Their opponent, the La Jolla Country Day Torreys, spoiled the unveiling by beating the Tri-City Christian Eagles 32-8. The Torreys were led by Caleb Petry who scored on runs of 10, 1 and 11 yards respectively. Petry also finished with over 200 all purpose yards. Anthony Bland also got into the end zone for LJCD when he gathered in the 21 yard pass from Carson Greene and juked his way up the right sideline for the TD.

The Eagles would score a late touchdown when QB Zack Reitmeyer played pitch and catch with Josh Black from 23 yards out. Reitmeyer would score the 2 point conversion to put TCC on the scoreboard. The Eagles will get another chance for a win under their new lights as they will host the Army-Navy Academy next Friday. LJCD will have a long break and won’t play again until October 20th when they will host the Orange Glen Patriots.

PREVIEW

Preview: This Friday night, many of the bigger schools in the county will not be playing as they have a bye week in the schedule. That means the bright Friday night lights shine on the smaller schools in the county.

Two of those teams are Tri-City Christian and La Jolla Country Day, who will face off on Friday. Both teams have been up and down this season and look to get on the winning track heading into the second half of the season. Tri-City (2-2) is coming of a 35-0 shut out win over Coronado. They are led by QB Zack Reitmeyer and his offensive threats in Christian Salibo and Malala Sapini.

La Jolla Country Day (2-3) is also coming off a big win as they blew out Parker 42-11. LJCD was last years Division 4 San Diego Section Champion. However the Torreys lost a lot of kids to graduation. The offense has put up big numbers so far this season and is led by E. J. Kreutzman, who has taken over for the graduated Braxton Burmeister admirably.

The smaller schools don’t have the large student bodies to pull from to field a team. A lot of the kids from Tri-City and LJCD have to play on both sides of the ball for the whole game. You should definitely make it out this Friday to watch, but if you can’t, be sure to tune into the Prep Pigskin Report on KUSI at 10:30 for highlights of this game and lots more from around the county.
