Healthy Living: Alcohol exposure unsafe at every stage of pregnancy

Posted: Updated:

A nationwide effort is about to be launched to educate women about the dangers of drinking alcohol during pregnancy.

You may be surprised to learn alcohol is more dangerous to an unborn fetus than cocaine, methamphetamine or marijuana, causing permanent brain damage.

Children born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, have social, educational and behavioral disabilities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates up to 5 of every 100 school children in the U.S. have life-long physical and/or developmental disabilities because their mothers consumed alcohol during pregnancy.

And it's completely preventable.
