Vista came into Del Norte on their homecoming night and left with a win. In a game that was never really close the Vista Panthers were clearly ready to play.
Del Norte looked to the ground for most of the night. Unfortunately for the Nighthawks the Panthers defensive line stood strong in the trenches. When the ground game wasn’t working the Nighthawks tried to move the ball through the air. This led to an early pick six, allowing Vista to go up 14-0 in the first quarter.
Vista’s offense was able to easily move the ball on the ground. They had touchdown runs from two, three, four, 13, 41, and 70. The highlight of the night for the Panthers came on the 34 yard touchdown rush. Brian Kelly took the pitch to the outside and juked a nighthawk defender. Kelly then showcased his speed as he dashed into the end zone untouched.
Next week Vista faces a visit from Rancho Bernardo in a game where both teams will look to add a much needed win on their season. Del Norte travels to Escondido who are trying to remain .500 on the season. It’s Homecoming week for the Del Norte Nighthawks as they play host to the Vista Panthers. This game is an exciting one to cover as a Nighthawk alumni. It will be a reminiscent experience stepping foot back on the campus for a home football game.
Entering week seven of the high school football season, this week’s matchup will determine which team will remain stagnant at only one win. Both contenders have reflecting records of (1-4) overall and a league record of (0-2).
With both squads coming into Friday’s game at three previous losses, it will be interesting to see who will pull out a second win. Vista leads over Del Norte by ranking standards as well as number of points scored in each of their previous games. Out of their five games played the Vista Panthers have compiled a total of 77 points, whereas the Nighthawks have only scraped together 44. Not to mention both teams have a shutout loss while being hosted by the opposing club.
Nevertheless, both Del Norte and Vista have the unfortunate disadvantage of dealing with a fairly difficult schedule the first half of the season. Teams such as San Marcos and Ramona who within the state of California are ranked among the top 53 schools, together sharing an incredible undefeated record of (5-0). Even though Del Norte has accumulated only 44 points in their season thus far, having home field advantage over Vista will hopefully give the Nighthawks the edge they need in order to take home the win.
