Helix Highlanders 41, Steele Canyon Cougars 7

Posted: Updated:

The Helix Highlanders came to Steele Canyon and once again dominated as they beat the Cougars by a score of 41 to 7. The player of this game was without a doubt Isaiah Wooden.  Wooden sandwiched a 12 yard Carson Baker touchdown pass with two punt returns for touchdowns. The first punt return came on the first play of the second quarter and measured 75 yards. Wooden was able to stay on his feet after initial contact and took it to the house. After a Cougar fumble, the Scotties marched down the field with their balanced attack and Wooden had his second TD of the quarter on a nice over the shoulder catch in the back of the endzone firmly planting his feet inbounds. Seven plays later Steele Canyon punted the ball to Wooden again and again he took it to the house. This time for 64 yards.
Steele Canyon was without Senior quarterback Thomas Fishburne for this game. He had to sit out due to a hit he took last week against Mira Mesa. Without their leader, the Cougars offense was one dimensional and Helix knew it. The Highlander defense was constantly wreaking havoc in the Cougar backfield. When the first half was over, the game was at 35 to 0. Helix improves to 5-1 while the Cougars drop to 3-3.

Preview: This week conference play starts and we will make the trek to Spring Valley as the Steele Canyon Cougars (3-2) host the Helix Highlanders (4-1).

The Cougars are winners of their last two games. Last week they handed the Mira Mesa Marauders their first loss of the season in convincing fashion 52-26. Steele Canyon is led by Senior quarterback Thomas Fishburne. In last week's victory he threw 5 TD passes and even forced a fumble and got an interception. This week the Cougars will face another big test in the Highlanders.

Helix is riding a three game winning streak in which they have out-scored their opponents by a combined score of 139-7. The Highlanders are led by senior quarterback Carson Baker an Sophomore running back Delshawn Traylor. Both players scored 3 TDs in last weeks 65-0 win over Bonita Vista. The Highlanders balanced offense so far has amassed over 1000 yards in the air and on the ground. Don't let the offensive stats fool you. The combined record of Helix's last three opponents is a dismal 4-12.

Steele Canyon on the other hand has faced tougher opponents and still came out with a winning record after 6 weeks. With their high powered air attack, this matchup is sure to be exciting.
